The Hendys Head North

This summer has been literally flying! I wanted to stop in and share a post about our summer vacation. It was much needed after a long school year for Josh! We decided to do a tour of the Northeast! It was a blast to get away and spend a lot of time together and enjoy different cities- We love exploring cities and are considering living in a big(ger) city one day, so this was a wonderful trip!

First stop was the Big Apple.

We spent most of our time in Brooklyn where these photos were captured. New York is a really unique city, we certainly liked the city but definitely were not in love with it. It was fun to spend Josh's birthday in the city though!

Next stop was Charlton, MA. Which I am sure 99% of you have never heard of, but it is my Dad's hometown and I spent most summers on the lake at my Gramma's house there. We managed to stop by my grandparents graves and the best pizza I have ever had, Charlton House of Pizza.

After a lunch in Charlton, we continued to stop three where we would spend the next two days. One of my all time favorite places, Boston. We really love Boston. We saw a Red Sox game (which they won against the Yankees- woohoo!), walked part of the Freedom Trail (do we scream history teachers?), hung out at Boston Commons, and ate at a whole lobster at Yankee Lobster Company. Every moment was enjoyable there- even in the sweltering heat wave they were having!

Make Way for Ducklings!

(Can you tell I was a little nervous about eating that lobster?)

Next we stopped by Lake Saranac to visit a dear friend of mine, Megan. She is engaged to Evan who works at the Young Life Camp there. Megan and I met working as lifeguards together at Saranac, and I met so many other friends there as well. It was a joy to be back at a place that brings back so many warm memories.

Then we headed to our final destination; Montreal, QC, Canada. It was so much fun crossing the border and driving into Canada. It is seriously a whole different world up there! At least in Quebec where French is the official language (although most of the natives speak English!) Canadians are very friendly and the city was very enjoyable. I did not snap very many pictures besides the one of Napoleon below in La Musee des beaux-arts and the one of us on Mount Royal on our anniversary! July 24 marked two years for us and it was so much fun spending it in Montreal!

The trip was so fun for Josh and I, but after 1,750 miles,
we were glad to be back home with our favorite cat!

Check back next week for a fun DIY!

Welcome!

Thank you for joining in my first blog post on Oh Happy Day! I am so excited to start this blog and share my daily thoughts & inspirations with you.

Summer has officially began in the Henderson home. Last week was Joshs first week off since the end of school. We have many exciting things geared up for summer and last week we started off with a friends wedding in Blacksburg, VA.

Congratulations Becca & Isaac! It was a joy seeing all of our friends in one place again... I love weddings for the simple fact that it brings people together. It literally joins the bride & groom together in a marriage covenant and also brings people from all over to celebrate the union.

We arrived home from the wedding and geared up for a week of volunteering at the CAMP- a sports &  arts camp our church, along with other churches and organizations, put on for children in Young Terrace (the project neighborhood here in Norfolk.) Click here to see a really awesome video that explains more...

The week brought on a lot of heart ache and frustration, but was encouraging none the less. The neighborhood there is a such a broken place and it was truly amazing to see a community come together to fill Young Terrace with joy and laughter.

I was the "Movement" teacher along with one of my best friends Katie. We taught the kids a dance routine to Dynamite and my friend above, Campbell, couldn't get enough of it.

That is an update on our summer for now- stayed tuned for some DIY projects, apartment living home inspirations, and super simple recipes. For now, enjoy this Harlem Shake video I put together from the CAMP last week.
